How it all started…
One day my colleague, August Basson, walked to a small church in the mountains of Lesotho. He came across a man who was cultivating a new piece of land for use, at a slope of 50°. August asked him why he was working there. His answer was that his own piece of land on the other side of the mountain was completely exhausted and the crops that grew there could no longer support his family. He knew that in two years time  his land would be washed away, nothing would be left. A healthy piece of land destroyed. The man was convinced he had no alternative. He had never heard of conservation agriculture. A concept which Growing Nations supports since then… working a piece of land in such a way that it does not get exhausted. That is now 8 or 9 years ago. Growing Nations currently has a training centre and a project site in Maphutseng.
